My views as a Structuralist Critic using the method of Structuralism and Literary Criticism by Gerard Genette.

Hello readers,
This blog post is one of my academic activities based on Structuralism and Literary Criticism by Gerard Genette.
Structuralism or Structuralist Criticism is the offshoot of certain developments in linguistics and anthropology. In literary theory, structuralism is an approach of analyzing the narrative material by examining the underlying invariant structure. The versatility of structuralism is such that a literary critic could make the same claim about a story of two.
By applying this theory I tried to analyse two Indian movies- Aashiqui I and Aashiqui II. In these movies as a structuralist critic I tried to find out similarities in different situations.

In both of these movies I have found-
1> Place
2> Love
3> Complexity
4> Unison

In Aashiqui I, we can see both the hero (Rahul) and heroine (Anu) met up in a disturbed place where they both get attracted towards each other and they fall in love. Rahul helps Anu to be self- dependent. Before marrying Anu, Rahul wanted to be an established singer which he becomes with the help of Anu. But later Rahul feels inferior thinking that he seeked the help of Anu to become successful and for which he grows a grudge inside himself against Anu. Later when Anu got an opportunity to excel in her career she was about to go but Rahul came and tried to stop her and she stayed back to retrieve her relationship again.

In Aashiqui II, we can see both the hero (Rahul) and heroine (Aarohi) met in a bar. Rahul got impressed by Aarohi’s simplicity and voice and promised to make her a singing sensation. Rahul begins to train Aarohi, who signs a music contract to sing in films and becomes a successful playback singer. When Rahul heard people gossiping that he is using her as a servant he feels bad, and Aarohi who was in love with Rahul compromised her career and comforts him.
Rahul overhears Aarohi talking with someone that she is going to give up her career for him because Rahul is more important to her. Rahul feels inferior and thinks that he has become a burden on her and would leave her to save her career. On the way after leaving Aarohi, Rhaul meets with an accident, on hearing this Aarohi decides to leave her career. But she was reminded that Rahul wanted her to see as a successful singer, so she decides to stay back only for Rahul’s sake. Later, she signed her name as "Aarohi Rahul Jaykar”, thinking at least in this manner she can unite with Rahul.
In both of these movies we can find same circumstances are showcased but in different manner.
